Bangui, June 27, 2016 – A peacekeeper of the United Nations Multidimensional Integrated Stabilization Mission in the Central African Republic (MINUSCA) was shot dead by unidentified armed men on June 24 2016 in Bangui.
MINUSCA peacekeepers were alerted and, in coordination with the national security forces, immediately organized a search of the victim’s body at the alleged crime scene. The body was found at Bangui General Hospital, in not yet elucidated circumstances. An investigation was immediately launched to gather evidence of this deplorable crime.
MINUSCA condemns in the strongest terms this shameful and unjustified act. “Attacking a peacekeeper could be considered a war crime. Everything will be done in order to find those who carried out this act and bring them to justice”, said the Special Representative of the Secretary-General of the United Nations for the Central African Republic and Chief of MINUSCA, Parfait Onanga-Anyanga.
MINUSCA presents its deepest and heartfelt condolences to the family of the victim, as well as to his contingent and his country.
